Food Assistance
We provide food to hungry families and individuals who demonstrate a need. Applicants can get food up to four times a year with thirty days between each time. We try to provide nutritious food through a variety of sources. Food baskets are intended to provide enough food to feed the family for three to four days.
Some Sources:
Agency volunteers glean food, including bread and meat, from Food Lion grocery stores.
We receive gleaned food from Fisherman's Net Second Helping program.
We purchase food from the Food Bank of Coastal Carolina for a shared maintenance fee.
Agency volunteers collect food at food drives.
The agency benefits from the annual Postal Carriers food drive.
We receive food from many churches, school groups and organizations.
We purchase food with designated donations.
BFAA also distributes USDA Donated Commodities four times a year to households with a total income within 130% of the Federal Poverty level
